Although most ofVoltairine de Cleyre’sliterary output was in the form ofpoetry, she also wrote several short stories and sketches in prose form. De Cleyre, whose life and career overlapped with the height of the Gilded Age in the United States, depicted the lives of the urban poor—especially women—in her stories, reflecting her social concerns and her radical politics as an anarchist feminist.
